Weekly Message from the Superintendent

Superintendent's Weekly Message - April 19, 2024

Dear Families and Staff,

I hope you are enjoying a well-deserved Spring Break!

On Tuesday night, the Board of Finance (BOF) voted 5-0-1 to approve the FY25 BOE budget in the amount of $330,737,756. We appreciate and thank the members of the BOF for their thoughtful consideration of our budget request and for supporting SPS  with a budget that will enable us to continue providing the quality programs and services that our students need to achieve their academic potential.

The next step in the budget process is a vote by the Board of Representatives (BOR) on Thursday, May 2.  Please feel free to contact your Representatives to request that no further cuts be made to the FY25 BOE budget request. Click here (http://www.boardofreps.org/alphabetical-listing.aspx) for a list of BOR members.

Earth Day is April 22

Earth Day is this Monday. If you’re looking for a fun activity to share with your family this weekend, Bartlett Arboretum is hosting Arbor Earth Day Sunday, April 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Bartlett Education Staff has planned a day of family fun and learning, featuring many local nonprofits that work to protect the environment. The Arboretum is located at 151 Brookdale Road.

Administrative Professionals Day is April 24

Wednesday, April 24 is Administrative Professionals Day! I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank the office support staff at our 22 program sites who work hard to support our administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families every day.

Complete the Household Income Survey Application

As summer quickly approaches we encourage All Stamford Public Schools Families to complete the Household Income Survey Application (English / Spanish) to verify if they may be eligible for reduced-price or free programs and services, including summer and after-school programs and camps, internet service, Advanced Placement exam fees, SAT and ACT exam fees, and college application fees.

Completing this application helps us understand district demographics and can help eligible families save money. All information you share is confidential.  Please note, this application is not required for school meals, as all SPS students currently qualify for free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision through the State of Connecticut.

Cafe con la Super

The next Cafe con la Super is Monday, April 29 at 6:30 pm at the Government Center. We will be joined by Erika Haynes from The School + State Finance Project and Ariana Fernandez from United Parents and Students, who will discuss the Multilingual Learner Bill of Rights that goes into effect on July 1, 2024. Please click here to register.
